Keystrokes per Hour (KPH) Calculator
Calculate KPH, KPM, and KPS from total keystrokes and time. Optionally subtract break minutes to estimate net typing speed.

Example data
| Keystrokes | Time (h:m:s) | Break (min) | KPH | KPM |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7,200 | 1:00:00 | 0.0 | 7,200.00 | 120.00 |
| 3,500 | 0:30:00 | 0.0 | 7,000.00 | 116.67 |
| 12,000 | 1:30:00 | 10.0 | 9,000.00 | 150.00 |
| 5,400 | 0:45:00 | 5.0 | 8,100.00 | 135.00 |
| 9,000 | 2:00:00 | 0.0 | 4,500.00 | 75.00 |
Formulas used
- Net seconds = (hours × 3600) + (minutes × 60) + seconds − (break minutes × 60)
- KPH = total keystrokes ÷ (net seconds ÷ 3600)
- KPM = total keystrokes ÷ (net seconds ÷ 60)
- KPS = total keystrokes ÷ net seconds
How to use
- Enter total keystrokes and time spent.
- Optional: enter break minutes to estimate net typing time.
- Click Calculate to view KPH, KPM, and KPS.
- Use the export buttons to download CSV or PDF.
FAQs
What does KPH mean? Keystrokes per hour based on your keystrokes and typing time.
Should I subtract breaks? Yes for net typing speed; no for real-world pace including pauses.
What counts as a keystroke? Depends on your tool—some count all keypresses, others count characters only.
Why show KPM and KPS? Same speed expressed per minute and per second for easier comparison.
Why is my KPH huge? Very short time windows can inflate the hourly rate—measure longer sessions.
Is this the same as WPM? No; WPM depends on word-length assumptions and counting rules.
