Formulas used
Linear unit categories
For length, area, mass, volume, speed, pressure, energy, power, and torque, the calculator converts through a base unit. It uses the same structure for both directions.
Base conversion: base = value × factor(from)
Target conversion: result = base ÷ factor(to)
Temperature
Temperature uses an offset and scale, so it cannot use a single multiplier.
°F from °C: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
°C from °F: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
How to use this calculator
- Select a category such as length, mass, or pressure.
- Enter a value. Fractions like “2 1/4” work.
- Choose the “from” unit and the “to” unit.
- Set rounding decimals. Choose inch fractions if desired.
- Click Convert. Use Swap to reverse direction fast.
- Download CSV or PDF to save your result.
FAQs
1) What is “standard” in this calculator?
It means imperial and US customary units like inches, feet, pounds, and gallons. Some items have US and UK variants, shown clearly in unit names.
2) Can I convert both directions?
Yes. Pick any “from” unit and any “to” unit inside the same category. You can also use Swap to reverse the selection instantly.
3) Why do temperature conversions look different?
Temperature scales use offsets and ratios, not a single multiplier. The calculator uses the standard °C↔°F formulas to avoid rounding errors.
4) What does “fraction output” do?
When the target unit is inches, you can round the result to a nearest fraction such as 1/16. This helps woodworking and measurement tasks.
5) Are the results exact?
The calculator uses standard conversion constants. Final display depends on your rounding choice. Increase decimals for technical work, or use fractions for inch-based tasks.
6) What is included in the CSV and PDF downloads?
Both exports include the category, input value, from unit, to unit, and converted result. The PDF also includes the date and time for recordkeeping.
